I love watercolor but I don't know what I'm doing with it. That doesn't bother me most of the time, at least now, but sometimes I wish I knew a little more. It's hard for me to take classes and I haven't been able to find a basic class that fits my time limitations in my area so I just continue to muddle along. But sometimes I wish a had better technique. And by better I mean any.
This is my favorite watercolor palette. It's a Winsor and Newton Sketcher's travel palette. (Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon is 14 bucks.)
I'm addicated to this little guy. I use this one with the orignal paint and although I like trying new colors - just to experiment - I keep coming back to it. It has a warm and cool for each primary and then all the good earth tones which is great because I'm always doing little landscapes when I'm waiting for whatever I'm always waiting for (car pool, soccer practice, swim meet, shopping, ...).
This was from last summer when we went on vacation at a camp.
Or this was when we took the semi-little people to a zip-line course. I was in the midst of my frozen shoulder episode and couldn't even imagine getting my hand over my head.
As a treat I got another and am filling it with a different section of paint. I ordered some half pans from Dick Blick (on sale - yay!)
They haven't arrived yet but I had a fun morning figuring out what I wanted.
I had to transpalte Winsor and Newton's names into the colors I'm learning. Winsor Deep Yellow is pigment number x which is Hansa yellow normally, for example. But last year I spent some time trying to get informed about pigments and understanding how paint is made. Just the basics but it's been interesting.
Oh, and happy Valentine's day! This evening as my fun activity, I'm going to a friend's birthday party. He was actually born on the 15th, but this year he'll be 90 and so he gets to pick the day he wants to celebrate.
On this day, as a gift from me to you, be kind to yourself. Please.
